A 340 square mile installation (217,337 acres), Fort Hood is the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions. The rolling, semiarid terrain is ideal for multifaceted training and testing of military units and individuals. Fort Hood is "The Army's premier installation to train and deploy heavy forces."
In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.
A campaign quality corps with joint and expeditionary capabilities, prepared for full spectrum operations in support of Joint, Combined, and Interagency missions.

III Corps Mission
When directed, deploy to a theater of operation, conduct military operations, and redeploy. III Corps trains, mobilizes, deploys, and sustains ready forces; on order, conducts decisive full-spectrum joint or combined operations.
Training for counteroffensive combat operations are III Corps' main effort. The force is designed to meet current needs in a dangerous and unstable world. It's offensive in nature and a departure from old Cold War strategy, which was defensive in nature.
Everything III Corps does is designed to support our preparations to fight and win. It's imperative that III Corps' war-winning readiness and deploy ability remain high.
